“Magic for a Pixeloscope” is a one hour show conceived to be/nrepresented in a theater scenario that merges mixed and augmented reality (MR/AR) and full-body interaction with classical magic to create new tricks. The show was conceived by an interdisciplinary team composed by a magician, two/ninteraction designers, a theater director and a stage designer. The/nmagician uses custom based hardware and software to create/nnew illusions which are a starting point to explore new language/nfor magical expression. In this paper we introduce a conceptual/nframework used to inform the design of different tricks; we/nexplore the design and production of some tricks included in the/nshow and we describe the feedback received on the world premiere and some of the conclusions obtained.

The paper presents a competence-based instructional design system and a way to provide a personalization of navigation in the course content. The navigation aid tool builds on the competence graph and the student model, which includes the elements of uncertainty in the assessment of students. An individualized navigation graph is constructed for each student, suggesting the competences the student is more prepared to study. We use fuzzy set theory for dealing with uncertainty. The marks of the assessment tests are transformed into linguistic terms and used for assigning values to linguistic variables. For each competence, the level of difficulty and the level of knowing its prerequisites are calculated based on the assessment marks. Using these linguistic variables and approximate reasoning (fuzzy IF-THEN rules), a crisp category is assigned to each competence regarding its level of recommendation.

Since 2004, artist Antoni Abad has developed a series of innovative, geographically diverse, multidisciplinary and socially committed projects designed to fit the needs of different human groups at risk of social exclusion. megafone.net invites these groups to express their experiences and opinions using cell phones to instantly publish them on the web in the form of audio, video, text and photos. Participants thus transform these devices into digital megaphones to amplify their individual and collective voices./nUnder the scientific direction of Roc Parés, this book examines megafone.net/nfrom various perspectives that range from those of project participants and coordinators Eliezer Muniz dos Santos, Jorge Morales and Mery Cuesta to the multidisciplinary academic approaches of Gerard Goggin, Pablo La Parra, Alberto López Cuenca and Kimberly Sawchuk.

In the 21st Century, an increasing number of citizens have access to Higher Education157./nHowever, the imbalance between free contents on Internet and expensive enrolment fees,/nparticularly in the Anglo-Saxon universities, could cause long term problems for the Higher/nEducation system. If the on-line experience is reasonably similar in activities and quality to/nthe teaching provided in the classroom; why not think in a disintermediation of Higher Education,/njust as happened in other business models like in the culture industry. What would/nhappen if citizens and governments rejected university degrees that certify these institutions/nas a unique source of learning and professional legitimation?/nAs it is well known, there is an active debate in the European Union about recognition/nand validation of informal learning (Council of the European Union, 2009)158. The aim of/nthis debate is to design new accreditation methods beyond the constraints imposed by formal/neducation institutions. In this context the analysis and reflection on disintermediation practices/nin Higher Education is more an academic necessity than an intellectual game. All the/ncommunication and cultural industries have already passed through this debate: Why should/nHigher Education avoid the discussion on disintermediation?/nThis article will explore questions such as: To what extent is this phenomenon reshaping/nthe traditional role of the university? Will it cause a crisis in the educational institutions?/nWill this disintermediation of education evolve towards the disappearance of institutions like/nschools and universities? In the following pages we will reflect on these topics and propose/nnew categories for understanding them..

The fast expansion of digital media has been a shock for institutions where future communicators are being trained. The accelerated rhythm that technology has passed on given all social activities has left communication degrees – both in Europe and Latin America – quite out of sync concerning with reality: some of them where born two or three decades ago, and they were projects having that had in mind a type of professional and a labour market that are now endangered species. In this context, the incorporation of digital content has been randomly incorporated in traditional communication degrees has been done in a random way, without really defining the competences that the digital society demands. Digitalism, in this sense, currently enters degrees under the shape in the form of a subject at the end of the training path (“Digital Journalism”, “Multimedia Communication”, etc.). Reality shows that there is no non– digital media anymore: all communication professionals work in an environment that has a strong technological content that affects his/her productive routines, regardless of the final product (newspaper, radio, web, TV, etc.). On the same level, digital content has to be integrated into study programs in all its entire structure, without being relegated to the last years of the degrees. Having Keeping this in mind, the project developed by the Red Iberoamericana de Comunicación Digital (ICOD Network) has pretended to elaborate find specific answers that accelerate the adaptation of communication degrees adapting to the new digital reality. In the specific case of universities where communication degrees have been created recently, the active participation in the project has allowed them to recover gain the accumulated experience of other institutions of the communication sector, and to shape study programs according to the new digital reality.

Recent forays into online and participatory social documentaries like QuestionBridge or
Immigrant Nation are offering alternative temporal conceptions and participative processes
compared to what other media activism does using social networks. These projects propose
reiterative dialogues, where media time consumptions expand and differ from Internet
standards, fostering long-term temporal horizons. Starting with the timescapes conceptual
framework as a theoretical background, we will analyse two interactive documentaries as key
examples of the new possibilities these platforms or storyspaces (places for sharing stories)
bring about, where participants can share, exchange and contribute to the dialogue of relevant
issues through a more multi-layered personal experience.

The concept of narrative is of paramount importance across various social sciences and humanities disciplines, including anthropology, psychoanalysis, cognitive psychology, sociology and semiotics. The "linguistic turn" that took place in the 20th C. was succeeded, as noted by Fludernik (2009), by a "narrative turn". This Chapter is an attempt at a critical overview of some of the most relevant approaches to branding from narratological or narrative points of view. "Narratology is the theory of narratives, narrative texts, images, spectacle, events; cultural artefacts that "tell a story" (Bal 1987: 3)" (Fludernik 2009: 105). The aim is to compare and contrast how narrative approaches have been imported in disciplines such as psychology and anthropology, and how they have made inroads into branding research, with a focus on semiotics.

In Janaury 2003, when Henry Jenkins published an article in Technology Review entitled Transmedia storytelling: Moving characters from books to films to video games can make them stronger and more compelling nobody could have imagined tha the concept of 'transmedia storytelling' would become one of the favourite keywords of media professionals and researchers in the first decade of the new century. What started as a very personal reflection inspired by Jenkin's passion for fan culutures ended up as one of the key business strategies in the contemporary culture industry and an entrenched research field.
This Chapter provides an overview of transmedia storytelling against the background of essential works for understanding its cultural dynamics, with an added focus on one particular aspect: the relationship between transmedia narrativee and brands from the perspectives of semiotics and narratology. In recent years there has been much discussion about the links between brands and storytelling (e.g., Salmon 2007). In this Chapter we will delve into the area where branding overlaps with narrative, while keeping an eye on transmedia storytelling and fictional words. Global cultural artefacts like Star Wars, Harry Potter, The Matrix, Batman, The Lord of the Rings, Lost, 24 and Walt Disney's characters will accompany us throughtout the following pages.

This work represents the documentation that emerged from a panel at the Visible Evidence XXIV documentary conference, held in Buenos Aires in 2017. The panel consisted of a series of propositions and interrogations of new epistemologies and ontologies for understanding interactive documentary through a materialist lens. These have been collected here, and the panel members invited to further develop their thinking in light of the panel. The work, as curated here, is deliberately between the tone of the presentation and a finished article. They are more formal than the former, and shorter and less refined than the latter. In this manner they are part of an ongoing experiment in alternative academic practices and forms that seek to open, critique, and revision scholarship as a black box.

According to the 2016-2025 Strategic Plan, UPF must satisfy and safeguard the needs of those students with a socioeconomic imbalanced situation. This is achieved through the application of different teaching methodologies and through solidarity and cooperation plans. Service-learning is a teaching innovation methodology applied in different UPF degrees by means of several projects. Courses containing service-learning experiences are qualitatively analysed through satisfaction surveys that evaluate both the teachers and the methodology used in class.

Digital networks shape traditional actors (authors, readers, librarians, publishers, and other intermediaries), institutions (libraries, bookstores), processes (collaborative writing, translation, correction), and texts (hypertext, open access, wiki technology). The article deals with the main transformations in these fields from a media ecology perspective. Media Ecology is a discipline first outlined in the early 1960s by researchers like Marshall McLuhan, Neil Postman, and Walter Ong. From this perspective, the emergence of the World Wide Web in the 1990s and social media in the 2000s radically changed the conditions of the media ecosystem. In this new context the old media and actors must adapt to the new environment if they want to survive. The chapter deals with these mutations and adaptations in the specific field of book publishing.

Since the emergence of the World Wide Web the media ecology has gone through deep transformations. While the broadcasting paradigm was displaced from its hegemonic position by the networking paradigm, the “old media species” are constrained to compete with the “new” ones and must adapt to the new conditions of the media ecology. Never in the long history of Homo sapiens has our social-technological network gone through such an accelerated and unpredictable shift. In this context the chapter reflects on the possibilities of a new discipline – media evolution – in grade of dealing with past, contemporary, and future transformations of the media ecology. After introducing how the Darwinian model was applied in the analysis of technology evolution, the chapter presents a general overview of approaches that should be part of any theoretical conversation about media evolution: Levinson’s anthropotropic theory of media mutations, Logan’s reflections of media evolution from the perspective of language, complexity, and emergent phenomena, and Manovich’s contributions around the computer metamedium and its hybridizations. The chapter concludes with a map of interlocutors for the construction of a media evolution theory and presents a first list of possible methodologies to apply in this emergent field.

This text is an attempt to review some academic work on youth cultures carried out in Spain since the transition to democracy (although some earlier work related to the subject, stemming from the late Franco period, is also brought up). The nearly 200 contributions analyzed (books, papers, theses, unpublished reports and journal texts) were grouped into different academic areas such as criminology, sociology, psychology, communication or anthropology, and theoretical trends ranging from “edifying” ecclesiastic post-war literature to the Birmingham school, to post-subcultural studies. The works are classified into seven major periods marked by different youth styles which act as distorting mirrors of social and cultural changes that are taking place: the late Franco times (golfos and jipis), the transition to democracy (punkis and progres), the post-transition (pijos and makineros), the 1990s (okupas and pelaos), the beginning of century (fiesteros and alternativos), the Latin kings and ñetas (2005̶ 2010) and finally, in the present, the ninis and indignados.

Diario de un Latin King is the striking chronicle of three trips: the journey of César Andrade (aka King Manaba) to his migrant, Inca, king and prisoner past; the journey of Carles Feixa (aka King Book) to meet the Latin kings and queens of Catalonia and beyond; and their journey, in short, to understanding the ways of life of that unusual transnational nation that is the Almighty Latin King and Queen Nation. The book is the fruit of multiple conversations over fifteen years, from their first meeting in 2005, on the occasion of a raid on a youth center in Barcelona, to the present. A journey through an arduous process of legalization, cultural projects in search of recognition, the prison experience and, finally, freedom. King Manaba's life testimony is complemented by photographs and personal letters, as well as epilogues signed by compatriots of the King Nation and other surrounding nations. The book is the first volume of the TRANSGANG series, which is part of the NED Editorial
Children's and Youth Library.

The text is an attempt to rethink the structure / agency dilemma from life stories, putting into practice Franco Ferrarotti's (1981) proposal to ‘read a society through a biography’. To do so, we focus on a singular account of the member of a transnational gang. The protagonist was born twice: the first, as César Andrade, in an coastal village in Ecuador in 1976; the second, as King Manaba, in a inland city of the same country in 1996, when he was crowned Latin King. After his ‘coronation’, his life went through three stages: that of the Primitive King, including his emigration to Spain in 2003; that of Conservative King, including his time in prison after 2009; and that of New King, after his liberation and rebirth as a citizen. His life stories is analyzed from three points of view: as a subaltern story; as a chronotope; as a vertical synthesis of a social history and as an horizontal synthesis of a social structure. This last interpretation allows us to read the structure, through the vertical axis of the Latin American exodus to Europe and of the post 2008 crisis, as well as the horizontal axis of the penal and media instances that criminalize the youth of the gangs. But it also allows us to read agency, the protagonist's ability to overcome and be reborn as a phoenix, transforming resistance into resilience.

In the XXI century, the traditional conformation of gangs has been altered for several reasons. The present global economic situation changed the context of gangs, and as a feature of this century, Internet and social media have shifted social relations and the way urban gang members interact. Ethnographic data demonstrate that gang members and ex-members are not only involved in crime and deviance but can also act as agents of mediation. How can we understand 21 st century gangs and develop a renewed definition that includes the characteristics of the current era? This chapter aims to develop a transnational, intergenerational, intergeneric and transmedia approach for the gangs of the 21st century, which is different from the local, coetaneous, male, and face to face model used to understand the gangs of the 20 th century. First, a brief walk through different gang traditions worldwide is presented. Secondly, a review of the different attempts to propose a gang definition is provided, from past approaches to more recent ones. Thirdly, the impact of information and communications technology (ICT) on gangs is reviewed. Fourthly, we explore the role of gang members as informal/natural mediators. To conclude, a renewed theoretical approach is proposed to research gangs using traditional and virtual ethnographic methods. The purpose is to provide an accurate picture of current offline and online urban street groups.

The chapter aims to analyze "the surface of the underground", that is, the cultural images that construct and deconstruct youth identities through language, music, aesthetics, cultural productions and focal identities, as a creative reflection of social conditions of generation, class, gender, ethnicity and territory. It is divided into four sections. In the first one it will be carried out a look towards the past, analyzing the historical antecedents of the studies on youth cultures in Latin America. In the second section we carry out a look towards different youth cultural actors: “tribes” in Spain in the 80s, “gangs” in Mexico in the 90s, “scenes” in Spain in the mid 90s, “cybercultures” around 2000, and “movements” after 2011 uprisings. In the third section it will be analyzed a transnational youth subculture that can be seen as a synthesis of the previous types. In the fourth and last section we introduce some theoretical reflections about youth cultures today as a way of conclusion.

How is power represented in politics? From the cinematographic fictions of Abraham Lincoln to photographs of politicians
such as Barack Obama, Angela Merkel, or Vladimir Putin that have adorned the covers of national and international newspapers, the image of the walking leader has established itself as one of the most recurrent iconographies in the visual representation of political action. Despite this, the political leader walking has not been an object of analysis in studies on visual communication or political iconography. Starting from the prominent presence of this “visual motif” in the media and public imagination, we postulate that this perpetuation responds to a continuation and recognition of iconographic traditions that, despite their evolution and transformation, remain valid. Within the Movep research project, we developed a hypothesis on the representation of the political leader walking by studying a sample of the covers of the Spanish newspapers with the largest circulation (El país, El mundo, and La vanguardia) from 2011 to 2017. At a theoretical level, we start from the studies of political iconography by Carlo Ginzburg (2011), Horst Bredekamp (2007), and Christian Joschke (2012), all framed under the theses of Aby Warburg (1905) on pathosformel. The methodology used starts from visual semiotics and iconographic historiography to determine the predominant figurative features of the images. Likewise, by linking the analyzed photographs with audiovisual fiction and the plastic arts, we interpret the connoted planes of the image and identify the visual story that emerges from them, which is translatable into an ideology or political position of the actors involved. Thanks to this framework and using an analysis of the composition of the images, the dynamics with the physical environment, and the gestures of the subjects, we establish seven categories that expand the meanings.

This chapter is devoted to the narrative world of The Triplets, one of the most internationally acclaimed Catalan audio-visual productions. In addition to the cultural and commercial significance of this narrative world, during almost three decades the adventures of these three sisters have unfolded across different media, giving birth to one of the richest transmedia
experiences in Spain. The Triplets brand is so well known by children and respected by families that companies like Danone have developed marketing campaigns with the characters. From among the many possible gateways to the world of transmedia narratives, in this text I chose to analyse a portion of this extensive textual universe from a perspective that integrates semiotics and narratology. This study is part of a larger research project that covers other types of stories ‒ parodies, reality shows, late night shows, advertising campaigns, etc. ‒ produced in Catalonia, some of which are also broadcast on Spanish and international channels (Scolari et al., 2011). The research was exploratory in nature due to the characteristics of the study object and its
relative novelty in the Spanish media landscape. The main objective, in addition to a first recognition of a set of transmedia works, was to test a series of analytical and theoretical tools by applying them to different narratives. While building the corpus of the analysis, and considering the exploratory nature of the study, it was decided to ‘probe’ the Catalan audiovisual production territory and identify a set of texts that, at first glance, appeared as the most interesting from a transmedia perspective.

A poética deve agradar primeiro a quem faz.

This chapter aims to offer a practical guide to help researchers answer these three questions. (1)
How to identify the interviewees who will be part of the study sample? (2)How to decide what
volume of interviews will be meaningful?(3) How to analyse the most relevant data provided by
respondents' answers? In order to do so, firstly, it proposes the understanding and application of
the Scoping Review as a method for identifying possible interviewees, and secondly, the knowledge
and use of CAQDAS programmes (more specifically NVivo) for the coding and qualitative analysis
of the data resulting from the interviewees' answers. This chapter also includes a practical
example applied to semi-structured interviews.

The digital media have undergone an unprecedented transformation in recent years by
exploiting the combined communicative potential of interaction and visualisation, generating,
in this way, new narrative forms and journalistic stories. But this is not something that can
be analysed in isolation. Understanding the digital media requires addressing the study of
interactive texts and the platforms of the digital ecosystem from different perspectives.
The digital media today have highly permeable boundaries, the guidelines that define them
being subject to constant modification: their texts are dynamic and constantly changing, their
systems operate, thanks to artificial intelligence, as just another actor that analyses, collects
and manages information. The space separating senders and receivers of messages has
become fuzzy and interwoven. For this reason, the study of digital journalism has to assume
this unremitting transformation as simply one more element in the debate about the media,
and accept it as a characteristic of the digital culture that defines the field of communication.

We analyse interactivity in the digital press, focusing our study specifically on aspects
related to user experience and user options for interaction. In so doing, our objective is the
improvement of digital communication, by offering the news media a solid basis from which
to evaluate their business model and their readers’ behaviour. We exploit a methodology
based on the design and testing of a research protocol and undertake a comparative analysis
employing an iterative process, thus ‘grounding’ our final theory in the data gathered. In
this way, we obtain a protocol – ‘Analysis of interactivity, searchability and web visibility
in digital newspapers’ or SAIPD in its Spanish acronym – that facilitates the extraction of
data from the digital news media. This tool, as its name suggests, is designed around the
three characteristic dimensions of the digital media (i.e. interactivity, searchability and
web visibility) and employs a series of analytical parameters and indicators. In this chapter
we examine four of these parameters related specifically to the dimension of interactivity:
the media-user relationship, user-generated content, the user-user relationship and the
personalization of content.
contenidos.

We present a method or system for the analysis and evaluation of content curation in the
digital media, which we call the Curation Analysis System (CAS). The system comprises two
main dimensions – namely, Curation and Content – which, in turn, are made up of a series
of parameters and indicators to which we assign a score. Each parameter is described in
detail under the following four headings: Definition, Explanation, Procedure, and Examples.
Procedure includes a list of indicators, and for each of them an analytical question and its
corresponding scoring system. In Examples, a set of good content curation practices for use in
the digital media are presented, in this case, related to the same format, that of newsletters.

Given the confirmation of the fundamental role of the application of Search Engine
Optimization (SEO) in digital news media as part of the media's commitment to its readers,
this chapter proposes to analyze the process of implementing SEO to the productive routines
of Diario de Sevilla and its consequent transfer to the rest of digital news media that make
up the Joly Group and collect the quantitative results of web visibility resulting from said
implementation, specifically from 2018 to 2021. To carry out this research, first of all, the
case study was used, specifically of the editorial team of Diario de Sevilla. For an adequate
triangulation, a participant observation, a battery of semi-structured interviews, and a
qualitative analysis of the content of the internal manual on SEO of Joly Group, a media group
to which Diario de Sevilla belongs, have been carried out. All this has been complemented in
turn, with a quantitative study, where, thanks to Google Analytics, the web traffic obtained
from the group from the year of implementation to the present (2018 - 2021) is collected.
The results confirm that in order to comprehensively implement the SEO of a newsroom, it is
necessary to clearly separate the work of the journalists/editors and that of the SEO experts or
managers at the level of the entire medium. In this sense, the SEO department has a strategic
function of analysis and generation of guidelines for editors. While it is up to the newsroom
to apply the SEO optimization recommendations without affecting the journalistic quality of
the news.
noticias.

Webdocs are facilitating the appearance of documentary projects in which the interaction
and participation of all the partners implied –authors, community and audience– generate
a shared space of documentation which in turn become part of a collective memory. In these
projects, the authors articulate the dialog with and among such communities with digital and
transmedia communication strategies, in which social networks play a central role. In this
paper the results about the participation and transmedia strategies on i-docs are presented.
Research is based on a triangulation of methods using study of literature, analysis of 3 case
studies and interviews with the i-docs authors and producers. We argue that these projects
present the following key characteristics: ability to adapt to each specific context, a main goal
is to transcend the digital space and positively affect the participant communities, but also
the difficulties to find a role and space within the larger media context.

For years home movies have not been the object of academic study, since they have been
seen as a minor cinema. Little could we imagine that family cinema would leave the private
space to become part of the mass media. Expanded intimacy. Recovering family films is an
increasingly frequent exercise, in order to give it artistic projection and new cinematographic
representations. Likewise, Unesco recommends safeguarding and preserving amateur
audiovisual records and family films as cultural heritage that is part of our history and
testimony of an era and its customs. This chapter deals with the topic of home movies and
makes a case study: Dad’s films. Places in memory, applying the art practice as research
methodology. And finally, it opens the way for further research that addresses the difference
between family movies of the 60-80s of the last century and those of today
recuerdo, aplicando la metodología art practice as research.

analyses the communicative strategies that pseudoscience uses for its social expansion. This work begins with the definition of an epistemological framework
that allows us to understand the phenomenon of pseudoscience and its relationship with the main factors of contemporary society, such as relativism and
liquidity. As a consequence of the postmodern condition, absolute certainties
vanish and the possibility of not only ignoring science but even denying it becomes real. In this sense, one of the main theses of this work is that the overinformed, postmodern and liquid society favours the expansion of pseudoscientific discourses. Spain, like most countries, is no stranger to this expansion. To confirm this hypothesis, different social groups have been analysed to
a) identify the degree of insertion of pseudoscience in these contexts; b)
describe and categorise the communicative elements present in pseudoscientific discourses; and c) propose lines of action to limit the rise of these discourses. The present research has covered science journalists, literature,
libraries, universities and different representatives of the biomedical field, such
as pharmacists and healthcare professionals. Mixed methodologies have been
applied: in-depth interviews to identify discursive patterns, content analysis,
data analysis, and focus groups. Among the main conclusions, the followings
stand out: 1) Pseudoscience uses fallacy, relativism, emotional reinforcement,
opposition to a supposed dogmatic concept of science, antiquity, holistic or
naturalistic arguments, among others to expand. 2) Pseudoscience normalizes
its social discourse through its appearance in different contexts, in some cases
openly, and in others in a discourse of risk minimization that favours its normalization as something innocuous. As a whole, the pseudoscientific discourse
represents a challenge for scientific communication that must be addressed
using all the communicative tools available.

Culture-aware and culture-specific approaches to computational musicology and music information research (MIR) have been shown to be effective for analysis of a music
culture. Recent efforts as a part of the CompMusic project argued that it is essential to
consider the sociocultural specifics of a music tradition to effectively define research
problems, collect data and propose methods for analysis. The project also demonstrated
the use of such approaches, leading to a collective body of work for MIR in Indian art
music. However, it is a considerable effort to define relevant research tasks, collect data
and develop specific methods for analysis for each music culture, which often poses a
significant entry barrier to start work in the field. One approach in such a scenario is to seek and identify parallel tasks, data and methods from the current state of the art
in other music cultures and use them for a preliminary and basic analysis of culturespecific tasks, extending them with culture-specific methods to be more effective and
relevant. While it is a sub-optimal compromise, such a perspective will enable preliminary analysis of a music culture using existing methods, and integrate it as a use-case
with existing common frameworks and approaches in MIR and data-driven computational musicology. In this chapter, we aid such an approach by describing common concepts, frameworks, approaches, resources, data and methods for computational analysis
of music from a perspective that could be useful for the analysis of Indian Art music.
With this perspective, it is hypothesized that the currently established methods and tools,
along with the datasets and corpora built within the CompMusic project will encourage
accelerated research into different research problems relevant to Indian art music. The
content of the chapter is targeted at musicians, music students, technology enthusiasts,
engineers and researchers to provide them a context of the current state of the art that
could help them start their work with computational analysis of Indian art music.

This chapter seeks to contribute to the contextualization of current trends, based on a review of the resignification of concepts such as convergence and innovation in the field of journalism, concepts that are essential when it comes to understanding technological development and the increasing cultural complexity of Journalism. In fact, journalism today presents a hybrid scenario of old and new media, one that is beginning to be described as “hi-tech journalism”, in which professionals strive to find stable employment and maintain basic principles of news journalism, such as rigor, truthfulness and quality. On the basis of this general and complete approach, the chapter is completed with an analysis of the main empirical studies on newsrooms convergence as one of the main media innovation development factors.

Lucien Matrat considered public relations to be an anthropological discipline because it is based on humans. This chapter provides examples as different and distant in time from one another as Hippocrates and the Spanish filmmaker Luis Buñuel to show that behind the idea of building a public image or an environment of trust there have always been aesthetic elements that have taken precedence over ethics, and that ethics have often been justified in aesthetic terms. The case of the Corpus Hippocraticum constitutes the most evident proof of our argument and is yet another example of what we now know as public relations being nothing more than today’s manifestation of very ancient social concerns. The cases of Hippocrates and Luis Buñuel are two examples, distant both in time and in elements employed, that highlight the importance of aesthetics in the construction of an ethical image throughout history. Aesthetic processes are based on the creation of meanings.
